Our work
Kefken Ahşap Dekorasyon fabricates and installs timber structures that stand over or beside water, from garden and pond bridges to sea piers and lakeside boardwalks. Because of the structural load and constant contact with water, these are among the harder jobs in timber work, which is why we like taking them on.
Which bridge and pier jobs do you do?
Some of the work we have done:
- Flat or arched garden bridges over ornamental ponds
- Timber boardwalks with railings along lake and river banks
- T-shaped timber sea piers
- Small bridges joining a deck at the poolside
As well as villa gardens, we work on larger sites such as residential complexes, institutions and hotels.
How is an arched timber bridge built?
An arched bridge needs curved load-bearing beams. We make them in our workshop by gluing thin layers of timber together and pressing them over a form. This way the beam behaves more evenly than a curve cut from a single piece of wood. Once the beams are set in place, the decking boards and railings are fixed on. The railing posts are bolted to the beams.
How is timber chosen for use beside water?
Timber near or in water goes through wetting and drying all the time. That is why water-resistant timbers such as pressure-treated pine or iroko are preferred for the frame and decking. For legs that go into the water, concrete or metal supports can be used alongside timber. Using stainless fixings matters even more by the sea.
How does a bridge or pier job work?
- Site visit: We see the water depth, the bank and how the bridge or pier will be used.
- Measurement and quote: We measure the span and width, settle the structure and materials, and give a quote.
- Workshop fabrication: Beams, arches, railings and decking are prepared in our workshop in Arnavutköy.
- Installation: Legs and supports are set in place, then the decking and railings are fixed.
- Maintenance: Waterside structures need regular checks; after handover you can call us for them.
How do you maintain a timber pier?
On piers and bridges, the legs near the water and the sun-facing decking wear the most. Washing and oiling the decking at least once a year and cleaning off algae also keeps it from getting slippery. The bolts and railing posts should be checked every season. Rotten or broken boards can be replaced one by one. We also repair bridges and piers built by other companies.
Frequently asked questions
Can you build a timber bridge over my garden pond?
Yes. We design a flat or arched bridge to suit the width of the pond and the ground on its banks. The beams are prepared in the workshop and assembled on site.
Which timber should be used for a sea pier?
Because the structure is constantly wetted and dried, water-resistant timbers such as pressure-treated pine or iroko are preferred. Stainless fixings are recommended throughout.
How are the curved beams of an arched bridge made?
We glue thin layers of timber together and press them over a form to make curved beams. A beam made this way is more even than a curve cut from a single piece.
Do you take on institutional and residential complex projects?
Yes. As well as villa gardens, we build bridges, piers and boardwalks on larger sites such as residential complexes, institutions and hotels.
What determines the price?
The span and width of the bridge or pier, the water depth, the structural system, the timber species and the railing detail. We give an exact figure after the site visit and measurement.
