Painting, Repair and Maintenance
We paint, repair and maintain decks, pergolas, railings, teak and timber furniture, including work built by other companies.

Our work
Kefken Ahşap Dekorasyon paints, repairs and maintains outdoor timber work and timber furniture. It does not matter who built it: as well as the structures we installed ourselves, we take on the maintenance of decks, pergolas and railings built by other companies.
Which maintenance and repair jobs do you do?
- Washing, sanding and oiling decks
- Painting and repairing pergolas, gazebos, verandas and log-post porches
- Removing rotten beams, posts and boards and replacing them
- Repairing railings, fences and stairs
- Maintaining and repairing teak surfaces
- Repairing and refinishing timber garden furniture and indoor furniture
You can also write to us about any other timber repair and maintenance work. If you are not sure what needs doing, a few photos of the structure on WhatsApp are often enough for a first assessment.
How can you tell timber needs maintenance?
Timber usually gives warning signs before it fails. If you see any of these, it is time for maintenance:
- The colour has faded or the surface has turned grey
- The paint is flaking or blistering
- Water soaks into the wood instead of beading on the surface
- Boards are cracked, lifting or splintering
- There are darkened spots that feel soft when pressed (a sign of rot)
Early maintenance is usually just sanding and oil. Leave it too late and the rotten parts have to be replaced.
How are maintenance and repair carried out?
- Site visit: We inspect the structure on site and work out which parts are sound and which need replacing.
- Quote: We settle the work and materials and give a quote.
- Workshop preparation: Replacement beams, posts and boards are made to size in our workshop in Arnavutköy.
- Application: The surface is washed, pressure-washed if needed, rotten parts are replaced, then everything is sanded and oiled or painted.
- Follow-up: We talk about when the next maintenance may be needed.
How often does timber need maintenance?
It depends on the timber species and how much sun and water it gets. Horizontal surfaces such as decks usually need oil once a year. On vertical surfaces such as pergolas, fences and facades, paint or oil lasts longer. On hardwoods such as iroko and teak, maintenance is mostly about keeping the colour. By the sea and in all-day sun the interval gets shorter. We can give the right interval once we have seen the structure.
Frequently asked questions
Will you maintain a deck built by another company?
Yes. Whoever built it, we maintain and repair decks, pergolas, railings and other timber work.
Can a rotten beam or post be replaced?
Yes. The rotten part is removed and replaced with a new one made to size in the workshop. In most cases the whole structure does not need renewing.
Should a deck be painted or oiled?
Oil is usually preferred on horizontal surfaces that people walk on; paint wears and flakes faster underfoot. On vertical surfaces either can be used.
Do you maintain teak?
Yes. We clean and sand greyed teak surfaces and feed them again with oil. We also repair broken or lifted parts.
What is the best season for maintenance?
Oil and paint hold best on dry timber. That makes dry, not too hot spring and autumn days the best time.
What determines the price?
The size of the area, the condition of the timber, the number of parts to replace and the material to be applied. We give an exact figure after seeing the structure.
Guides
- How do you maintain a timber deck?Timber deck maintenance has three basic steps: wash the surface with a brush and water, let it dry completely, and apply a suitable wood oil. The interval depends on the product used and how much sun the surface gets; most manufacturers recommend one or two coats a year on surfaces in full sun. It is time when the colour has faded or water soaks in instead of beading on the surface. A deck's life depends on its substructure as much as its boards, so maintenance also means checking the joists and screws.
- What is thermowood and where is it used?Thermowood is timber that has been heat-treated at high temperature in a controlled environment. No preservative is added; the wood is processed with heat and steam alone. The treatment reduces how much moisture the wood takes up and gives off, so thermowood swells and shrinks less and resists rot better. In return it becomes more brittle and loses bending strength. Sources generally recommend it for places with no ground contact, such as cladding, deck boards, fence panels and saunas. It is not recommended for load-bearing joists or for posts set into the ground.
