Wood species compared

General properties of the four woods most used outdoors. The right choice depends on sun and water exposure, budget and how much upkeep you want.

Wood types: which timber for which job?

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose pressure-treated pine or iroko for my deck?

Your budget and how the area is used decide. Pressure-treated pine is more economical and lasts well with regular care. Iroko is harder and more durable and stands out in constantly wet places such as pool surrounds, but it costs more.

Can a deck be laid over an existing concrete or tiled terrace?

In most cases, yes. The joists sit on the existing surface; the drainage direction and the door threshold height are checked during the site visit.

Should I choose a pergola or a gazebo?

If you want light shade attached to your house, a pergola fits better; if you want a covered corner that stands alone in the garden and can be used in the rain, a gazebo does. We decide together once we have seen the space.

How often does a deck need oiling?

Usually once a year is enough. Decks that get a lot of sun and water may need it more often. Fading colour and water soaking into the wood are the signs.

Will you maintain a deck built by another company?

Yes. Whoever built it, we maintain and repair decks, pergolas, railings and other timber work.

Who does the fabrication?

The parts are prepared in our own workshop in Arnavutköy and our own team installs them. The job stays in one pair of hands from measurement to assembly.
